Doctors say calcium is necessary for strong bones and provides a variety of other health benefits, including allowing your heart, muscles and nerves to function properly.

Women ages 19 to 50 should get one-thousand milligrams a day.

Your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium.

You can get vitamin D from sun exposure, natural foods, fortified foods or supplements.

The Mayo Clinic says the recommended allowance of vitamin D is 15 micrograms (mcg) or 600 IU a day for most adults.
