6 on Health: Opioid crisis in U.S. hits home in SETX
President Trump has declared the opioid crisis a public health emergency, and it hits home right here in Southeast Texas.
The Unity Treatment Center in Beaumont has more than 350 men at the location, and the center's officials say the numbers are rising.
The Centers for Disease Control reports that 64,000 people died from drug overdoses in 2016.
Counselors say addiction oftentimes start with abusing pain pills and over time can lead to using much harder drugs.
