Forever Families: Mothers Day special

BEAUMONT - by Ashley Gaston - A Southeast Texas mother says she received the perfect Mother's day gift one that will last a lifetime.

A present she says brought a heap of joy into life, changing her and her husband's lives.

Tiffany Smith enjoys reading to her three year old daughter Ernie. It's one of their favorite things to do together.

"When I first saw Ernie, there was a bond, I can't explain it. You always feel love for a child, but there was something special," said Tiffany.

Tiffany treasures every day she spends with Ernie.

"She is everything I would ever want in a baby, she has a beautiful personality," said Tiffany.

The similarities between Tiffany and Ernie often come as a surprise to her and her husband Kevin.

For 11 years they tried to have a baby, but couldn't.

"Maybe god has our names written on somebody else's hearts," said Tiffany.

And God did, he brought them two beautiful baby girls.

The couple adopted Ernie from CPS when she was 6 months old. Now they're in the process of adopting her biological sister Annie.

"The way their going to change your life, that's the most amazing part of having them because I didn't know how unfulfilled I was until I had them, until they came along because nothing has made me happier, there's a love that I have for them I can't explain," said Tiffany.

It's a feeling tiffany hopes other families will open their hearts and hopes to.

"So if you have it and you think you wanna adopt, do it, do it there's nothing you can do with your life, that is better, there's nothing that is better than this," said Tiffany.

A gift Tiffany and Kevin waited more than a decade to receive. A Family treasure they say has brought more joy, happiness and fulfillment than they could ever imagine.

Tiffany and Kevin both have adopted siblings.
