Diversity Group to host four Beaumont ISD candidate forums

Diversity Group Beaumont is hosting four BISD Candidate Forums in various locations throughout the city, including one forum on Thursday that will be bilingual.

Diversity Group Beaumont is made up of men and women from different cultures, backgrounds, and areas of Beaumont who come together to better understand each other, the community and its needs.

This group includes members of the Baptist Ministers’ Union, League of United Latin American Citizens, Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, the NAACP, Diocese of Beaumont, Mike Getz, Ministerial Brotherhood Alliance, YMBL, and Cathedral Church.

It is currently working to educate the community on the BISD transition plan, the roles of parents, educators, trustees in helping our school district excel, and to prepare the community for an election of a new Board of Trustees in May of 2017.

“This is an important opportunity for the entire community to voice opinions for our next BISD Board of Trustees and is a chance for all sectors of our community to become educated on the process and make an informed decision at the polls," said Regina Lindsey, president of the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce.

There will also be a BISD Candidate & City Forum on Tuesday night hosted by the NAACP Beaumont. That forum will be held at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church, located at 3765 Fannett Road in Beaumont. It starts at 6:30 p.m.
