Restaurant Report: July 25, 2014
KFDM News - Roaches, flies and repeated visits at one restaurant to get in compliance with health codes are just a few of the problems inspectors find at Beaumont restaurants.
We have the highs and lows in this edition of the Restaurant Report Card.
begin with Taqueria Don Jose Food Truck on Washington. When inspector
Wilhelm first visited there was no running water and employees had no
place to wash their hands. Everyone needed hair restraints. Also, personal
drinks are not allowed on the food prep surfaces. All are violations of
good hygenic practices. Meat must be stored in a ziploc bag or
tupperware bowl not in a Wal-mart bag in order to avoid cross contamination.
Flies were found in the food truck and there was a leak in the back that
needed to be fixed. Taqueria Don Jose Food Truck received a 65.
Inspector Wilhelm returned and told owners meat had to be bought and
logged daily. The leak at the back of the truck had not been fixed. They
were told if they did not comply with food and mobile unit requirements
at all times they would be shut down. When inspector wilhelm returned
again the leak had been fixed, and the business' food permit was reinstated.
onto Great China Restaurant on Calder. Inspector Girard noted the
coolers and freezers were not at the proper temperature. Fried egg
rolls were sitting out at room temperature which could lead to illness.
Foods out of their original packaging needed to be labeled and dated. Wet wiping towels were on counters and not in sanitizing buckets. A fly
strip was found in the kitchen with dead flies that could fall into
food. The food contact surfaces needed to be cleaned and sanitized. The
ice machine needed cleaning. Great China gets a 76.
And finally, inspectors check out La Casita on College. One
of the refrigerators was not keeping foods at the proper temperature.
All employees need to wear hair restraints. All foods out of their
original packaging needed to be labeled and dated. Tortillas were
laying on a table exposed to flies. The handwash facilities needed soap
and towels. Roaches were on the handsink and flies at the back door. La
Casita gets a 78.
