After 3-hour investigation, Newton County bomb scare determined to be a false alarm
NEWTON COUNTY —
After a three-hour investigation earlier this week into whether homemade bomb making materials were found at a Newton County lake house, federal agents determined nothing explosive had been built, a spokesman said Wednesday in a news release.
The sheriff's office responded at about 4:30 p.m. Monday after receiving a call from the Toledo Village area in the north end of Newton County.
A caller said he discovered possible bomb making materials at a relative's lake house.
Several law enforcement officers from different agencies responded and believed the materials to be used for homemade bombs.
They contacted federal officers, who then contacted the Houston Police Department Bomb Squad, which responded to the scene.
The three-hour investigation revealed no federal law had been violated since nothing explosive was constructed.
The family agreed to release all the materials to the bomb squad for training purposes, according to the news release.
