Beaumont ISD bus driver to be cited in Lumberton crash

Twenty-three Charlton-Pollard Elementary School fourth-grade students were taken to area hospitals April 6 following a three-vehicle bus crash in Lumberton.

The Beaumont ISD bus driver who police say was responsible for a crash in Hardin County earlier this month, which sent 23 students and two adults to area hospitals, will be cited for failure to control speed, KFDM/6 News on Fox has learned.

Michelle Lewis drove the BISD bus April 5 when it crossed into oncoming traffic and left the roadway on U.S. 69 in Lumberton.

The bus crashed into an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck before hitting a culvert and landing in a ditch.

We have reached out to the school district for information on Lewis' job status and a district spokesperson tells us Lewis is off work recovering from injuries sustained in the crash.

We're also checking on the health status of the student and teacher who were hospitalized overnight after the crash.
