Beaumont man faces 5 burglary charges

Jermaud Hubbard, a 38-year-old Beaumont man, was indicted Wednesday on five burglary charges for what police describe as an eight-day crime spree in January.

Jermaud Hubbard, a 38-year-old Beaumont man, was indicted Wednesday on five burglary charges for what police describe as an eight-day crime spree in January.

And this isn't the first time Hubbard has been accused of stealing.

One affidavit supporting Hubbard's arrest accuses him of removing tools from the office area of Setex Construction on 23rd Street in Beaumont and pawning them at the EZ Pawn in Port Arthur less than two hours later.

Another affidavit says Hubbard stole a wallet from a women's purse inside of an office building. It appears he concealed the wallet in front of his jacket area before exiting the building at 985 Interstate 10 North, the affidavit states.

This was only two days after the incident at the construction business on 23rd.

The week before, a man police identified as Hubbard entered the Regent Park office building at 85 Interstate 10 and roamed the hall of the two-story complex.

He eventually located an open office that was being remodeled and removed several power tools and other tools, according to an affidavit.

Stewart Title at 3050 Dowlen Road was hit Jan. 26, the same day the woman's wallet was stolen. Beaumont police say Hubbard is responsible for stealing another woman's wallet from that building.

"He walked past the reception area and into the non-public offices area," a Feb. 24 affidavit states. "He was observed by the victim, but thought that he may have been with IT. She observed him go into her office and near her computer. She did not think much about it at the time.
"The victim's purse was sitting under the desk. When she went back into her office, she noticed that her computer was still locked. She then realized that the (suspect) she had observed in her office was not an IT employee. She checked her purse and found that the suspect had stolen her wallet out of her purse."

Hubbard's criminal record shows a 2006 felony conviction for unauthorized use of a vehicle in Harris County; a 2010 conviction for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in Jefferson County; four 2012 convictions for credit card abuse and burglary, also in Jefferson County;
