Beaumont, Port Arthur ISD hiring teachers, other employees

The Beaumont Independent School District is hiring teachers for the 2017-2018 school year.

According to the school district officials, there are 1150 active teachers in the district and 68 teacher vacancies.

According to BISD, the number of vacant positions are in various stages of the hiring process, and the number of vacant positions will decrease within the coming weeks.

In addition to hiring new teachers, the district is also welcoming back some retirees who want to return to the classroom, as well as substitutes who can fill in until a permanent teacher is hired.

"We're currently still looking for teachers through all levels elementary," says BISD Associate Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen. "Pre-K through 5th grade."

Allen says the district is also looking for secondary level teachers for core classes, as well as fine arts, and bilingual elementary school teachers.

The district says its always looking for bus drivers and other workers as well.

We also reached out to Port Arthur ISD.

As of Thursday afternoon, principals there were interviewing potential teachers, but the district is still looking to hire new ones.
