Woman from Orange dies in airboat accident on Neches River

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Texas Parks and Wildlife are working to learn why an airboat flipped over Friday night, killing a woman and injuring a man on the Neches River near Port Neches Park, according to information provided to KFDM News and 6 News on Fox by Deputy Marcus McLellan.

Victoria Hughes, 59, of Orange, died Friday night at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, according to Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett, who ordered an autopsy. Her husband wasn't seriously hurt.

Texas Parks and Wildlife is investigating the cause of the accident in which the airboat overturned in a marsh on the Orange County side of the Neches River. First responders set up at the Port Neches Park boat ramp.

First responders from the Port Neches Fire Department took the man and woman by boat to the boat launch at Port Neches Park.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit worked the accident and it sent a helicopter to the scene.
