Burglars targeting unlocked cars across Jefferson County
Auto burglaries are on the rise across Jefferson County.
Dozens of cars in the area broken into and deputies say many valuables have been stolen.
The Sheriff's Office says nearly 40 cars had items stolen in the past few weeks.
That's just a fraction of the ones rummaged through, but nothing was taken.
The sheriff says the issue is drivers aren't locking their car doors at night.
The Sheriff's Office announced a new initiative at a news conference Thursday.
