"Did you kill Mr Dill? Yes sir, I did."
A 24-year-old murder suspect is apologizing to the victim's family and admitting his role in the crime.
Tonight, Beaumont Police arrested Darius Gardiner and questioned him for several hours at BPD headquarters before taking him to jail.
A judge set bond at $750,000.
He's charged with murder in the shooting death of Cedathion Dill, 36, who was the father of a one-year-old.
Police found his body shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday on the lawn outside of his mother's apartment at the Pointe North Apartments off Hale and Magnolia in north Beaumont.
Witnesses say a gunman fired eight to ten shots at Dill before getting into a car that sped away from the scene.
Gardiner stopped to talk with our reporter, Peter Eliopoulos, on the way out of the police station. Gardiner didn't deny he's the killer.
Peter: Did you kill Mr. Dill?
Gardiner: "Yes sir, I did."
Peter: Do you have anything to say for yourself? Do you apologize to the family?
Gardiner: "To the family and to his mother, I'm truly sorry. I really, really want to apologize. I love my family, I love my kids, but I gotta face my consequences like a man. Everyone out there doing that stupid stuff, stop it. Let the police handle it. When it comes to consequences like that, you handle it on your own. That's what I'm doing right now, so think twice."
The shooting death is the city's fourth murder this month and third in the past ten days.
