An 18-wheeler crashed Monday afternoon on the eastbound side of Interstate 10 in Orange County near the FM 1442 exit.

The Texas Department of Public Safety released a statement indicating the truck tractor semi-trailer crashed into a concrete barrier after the driver lost control of the vehicle "for an unknown reason."

The impact of the collision caused the truck tractor to catch fire. The 18-wheeler was hauling filters, according to DPS.

A 51-year-old Maryland man who drove the truck was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont with minor injuries, the DPS statement said.

All eastbound and westbound lanes on Interstate 10 near FM 1442 remained closed as of 4 p.m.

Motorists are being diverted to the access roads while emergency crews work to extinguish the fire, according to DPS.

The agency said there is no time estimation as to when the road will reopen to traffic and encouraged motorists to find an alternate route.
