Couple escapes flames that destroy home in Jasper
JASPER COUNTY —
A couple barely made it out of their Jasper home before flames destroyed the two-story wood frame structure, according to Mike Lout from our media partner KJAS.
Family members told KFDM the woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of burns.
Fire broke out a home at 215 North Peachtree in Jasper shortly before 3:00 Wednesday morning and ended up destroying the two-story wood frame structure.
A resident of the home, Brent Foster, said he and his wife woke to smell smoke and barely made it of the house as flames quickly spread throughout the structure.
Firemen arrived at the scene to find the home engulfed in flames with fire coming out of almost every window. There was little they could do but prevent the fire from spreading as officers from the Jasper Police Department went to the homes of neighbors, knocking on doors and telling them of the impending danger.
Firemen battled the flames for some time and used a large monitor nozzle on one of the pumpers to direct a large stream of water onto the fire before finally bringing under control.
The couple lost several pet cats in the flames.
It is still unknown what caused the fire. Jasper Fire Marshal Brandon Duckworth was on scene and investigating.
