Former West Orange-Stark coach serving jail time in mother-daughter killing
ORANGE, Texas (KFDM) - The former West Orange-Stark assistant football coach convicted of two counts of failure to stop and render aid in the deaths of a 25-year-old mother and her 6-year-old daughter turned himself in to the Orange County Jail earlier this week to serve his 180-day jail sentence.
Carl Broussard was given 10 years' probation last month in the November 2015 deaths of Ava Lewis and her daughter LaMya Newhouse.
The sentence prompted outrage on social media. Days later, Judge Buddie Hahn announced Broussard would spend 180 days in jail as part of the sentence.
The crime carried a punishment range of two to 20 years in prison.
