Funeral for Silsbee firefighter moved into high school auditorium
A gathering of family and friends of the Silsbee firefighter killed in the line of duty Wednesday is scheduled Saturday at Broussard's funeral home and his funeral service is Sunday at the Silsbee High School, according to his online obituary.
Jarrell "Jay" Bradford Hinkie II, 61, died Wednesday after he was hit by a vehicle while working a traffic accident on FM 418 in Silsbee.
Weather permitting, the funeral will be held at the auditorium. Earlier plans had the funeral at the stadium, but it was moved inside due to weather conditions.

Jarrell “Jay” Bradford Hinkie, II, 61, of Silsbee, died August 2, 2017. He was born on July 11, 1956, in Jasper, to Betty Powell Hinkie and Jarrell Hinkie. Jay worked at South Hampton Refinery for forty-three years and was a firefighter for the Silsbee Volunteer Fire Department for twenty-six years.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Hinkie; children, Loral Bradford Hinkie of Austin; Todd Hinkie and his wife, Erecka, of Beaumont; and Hillary Suzanne Mike and her husband, Jason, of Spring; grandchildren, Carmin Hinkie and Daelan Hinkie; mother, Betty Hinkie of Silsbee; siblings, Marsha Jane Dubois and her husband, Steve, of Williamston, South Carolina; Karrell “Kay” Jean Wright and her husband, Bill, of Silsbee; Dwayne Hinkie and his wife, Arlene, of Beaumont; and Patrick Ray Hinkie of Silsbee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is preceded in death by his father.
A gathering of Jay’s family and friends will be 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2017, at the Silsbee High School Auditorium, 1575 Highway 96 North, Silsbee, with his interment to follow at R.S. Farmer Memorial Park, Silsbee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jay’s name to the Silsbee Volunteer Fire Department, 490 Payne Road, Silsbee, Texas 77656.
