Riverfront Park damage

KFDM is learning Tropical Storm Harvey caused major damage to Riverfront Park in Beaumont.

The relentless pounding of the water ripped away 30 to 40 feet of the park. Several bulkheads disappeared into the water and concrete blocks were pushed around.

The waves and wind tore apart the amphitheater and water is now rushing beneath the structure.

Beaumont Council set aside $3 million to improve the park. A large portion of that was to build a splash park larger than the one in Port Neches.

Councilman Mike Getz tells KFDM the city must now rethink all of that and determine if it makes sense given the damage, which he says adds up to millions of dollars.
