Man indicted for capital murder in 2015 Orange County double killing
ORANGE COUNTY —
The Orange County grand jury has indicted Aaron Kyle Angelo for capital murder in the June 2015 killings of Richard Ames and Edna Phillips at a Vidor home.
Orange County District Attorney John Kimbrough announced the indictment Friday in a news release.
"After their bodies were discovered a lengthy and complex investigation was conducted and Angelo was identified as the person responsible," the release states. "The Texas Rangers, the Vidor Police Department and the Orange County District Attorney's Office participated in the investigation."
The case was assigned to the 163rd District Court and Angelo's bond is set at $1 million.
Angelo has been described by police as Ames' former stepson.
Vidor police officers were called to a home at 360 Timberlane Street at about 11 p.m. on June 11, 2015, when they received a report of two dead people in the home.
Officers arrived and spoke with a family member who had become concerned about not hearing from the resident of the home. Former Vidor Police Chief David Shows says Ames, 84, and Phillips, 85, had been "brutally killed in the home and Mr. Ames' 2006 Chevrolet pick up truck was missing."
Investigators last year said DNA samples conclusively linked Angelo to his former stepfather's pickup truck.
