A 28-year-old Beaumont man is charged with aggravated assault after a shooting Tuesday morning on the city's north end.

Police arrested Keshawn Thomas after leading officers on a chase, according to Beaumont PD.

Officers responded to an apartment complex at 2575 Primrose Street around 9:35 a.m. after a report of a disturbance.

The first officer to arrive on scene was told someone had been shot and the suspect, later identified by police as Thomas, was behind the building.

"Several witnesses told the officer that he'd just been shot and he ran behind the building towards the south," says Haley Morrow of Beaumont Police.

Police say Thomas ran away and threw the handgun on top of the Sunset gas station on Concord.

Police retrieved the handgun after arresting Thomas.

"The good thing is that the officer was in the right place at the right time and was able to apprehend the suspect before he was able to hurt anyone else," said Morrow.
