PD's taking more precautions after San Marcos officer killed, stress use of body cameras

After a San Marcos officer was killed Monday while serving a warrant, SETX police departments are slightly more on edge.

Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush says it doesn't make him and his officers afraid, but their is always a fear for officers when they're out on patrol.

NPD has used body cameras for about 6 months.

All patrol officers wear them and they either turn on with the push of one button, or automatically turn on when the officers overhead lights are activited.

Chief Bush says they protect citizens as well as officers, since everything is recorded.

Chief Bush added that if the officer in San Marcos was wearing a body cam, it can help during the investigation, but also to help better protect other officers in the future.

Kaily Cunningham has more.
