Riverfront Park takes backseat to Beaumont residents' needs

While recovery from hurricane Harvey continues across southeast Texas, some things will just have to wait.

That includes Beaumont's Riverfront Park.

City manager Kyle Hayes says the park lost about 40 feet of shoreline after the Neches River exceeded its normal level by about 15-20 feet.

Although sidewalks, portions of the amphitheater and a concrete dock are gone, Hayes says fixing homes and important infrastructure take precedence over the park.

He also says FEMA should be included in the repairs, as they helped repair the park after Ike damages.
