Signs outside house in Texas causing uproar
GROVES, Texas (KFDM) - Signs outside a Groves, Texas, home are causing concerns with homeowners in the area.
The signs mention various religions and different ethnicities. One of the signs had a swastika.
"It's upsetting and frustrating to people like me and my family," says a Groves resident. "I can only imagine what it's doing to other people, especially those that have kids that ride their bikes in front of this thing."
Neighbors around the homeowner say he is very unsociable. Most were unable to remember his name.
Attorney David Barlow says although the signs may seem offensive, it's "more than likely" the signs are protected by the First Amendment. He says the signs are on private property and aren't targeted hate speech.
"He's not calling out individuals, he's calling mostly on the Catholic Church, the Nazis, which don't exist anymore. The sign about African Americans doesn't make sense," says Barlow. "Then, if you go talk to him, you might find out he believes absolutely none of these [things], it's to start a dialogue."
KFDM/Fox 4 made attempts to speak with the man, but he did not answer his door.
