Water main breaks in Silsbee, boil notice issued
UPDATE: A boil water notice has been issued in the city of Silsbee due to a water main break, which earlier Friday led to the high school dismissing students.
PREVIOUS: Silsbee High School students were dismissed Friday at 10:30 a.m. as a result of a water main break in the area that has caused a lack of water at its campus, a district spokesman said in a news release.
School officials have been in close contact with city of Silsbee officials throughout the morning, and have determined that the main will not immediately be fixed, the news release says.
The decision to dismiss the students and staff was out of safety concerns.
Students with vehicles were allowed to leave at 10:30 a.m. Parents were also allowed to pick up students as well, or make arrangements to have them picked up.
Students that rely on bus rides, and have no access to be picked up, are being taken to Edwards-Johnson Silsbee Middle School with fresh water and restrooms.
School officials will continue to work with the transportation department in the meantime, to gather bus drivers for these students, if needed.
This release applies to the high school campus only. All other campuses are functioning safely with water.
Silsbee ISD Superintendent Richard Bain and Silsbee High School administration reiterate in the news release that all high school students will be safe until all are released.
