Gender still unknown for skeletal remains in Jasper County
A man hunting in the woods for deer in Jasper County found human skeletal remains instead.
He was about a half mile from County Road 350, off of FM 252, when he saw the remains.
Jasper County deputies responding to the scene Tuesday night and continuing their investigation into Wednesday.
"We're searching a pretty good sized,"says Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman. "We'll be here until we are satisfied we've recovered everything we can".
Investigators are not sure whether the remains they found are from a man or woman. When their investigation is over, Texas Rangers will be sending the body to a DNA forensic lab. Results could take from six months to a year to come in.
Wayne Peacher lives close to where the investigation took place, and says their normally quiet community was awakened Tuesday night.
"I didn't know anything until I came home last night. I pulled up and there's cop cars everywhere," says Peacher.
Peacher's friend is the one that found the skeleton, and he says he passed the spot four times until he looked down and saw the remains.
Jasper County deputies and Texas Rangers will continue to investigate the scene.
