Suspect found guilty in Beaumont store owner's killing, gets life without parole

A man has been found guilty of capital murder in the 2015 killing of a Beaumont store owner.

A man has been found guilty of capital murder in the 2015 killing of a Beaumont store owner.

Investigators say in 2015, Chandler Kyle Ventress confessed to killing convenience store store owner Mettha Kuruppu.

They say the then 19-year-old Ventress told detectives he planned to rob the Pick-N-Shop store on Major Drive near College.

Investigators say Ventress, along with a man they call an accomplice, wore masks and robbed the store. The other man is awaiting trial.

Prosecutors did not the death penalty in Ventress' trial. He faced an automatic life sentence with a conviction.
