Two arrests after game room raid in Newton County

Two people were arrested and have bonded out of jail following a game room raid in Newton County.

Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles says two more arrests are likely after investigators raided the game room at Dee's One Stop in the Trout Creek Community.

Sheriff Rowles says a three-month investigation led to the raid Thursday night at the store.

KFDM/Fox 4's Angel San Juan was in Newton County on Friday and reports on what all authorities seized from the store.

The raid involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including local, state and federal agents.

Seng Xayaseng and Jessie Jenkins both were charged with keeping a gambling place and promotion of gambling.

In addition to the arrests, authorities seized 17 game machines and more than $22,000.

Sheriff Rowles says investigators have a solid case and believes gambling was taking place inside the store.

He says illegal gambling attracts other crimes to the community.

He says the store's ATM is proof that the game room preys on the poor.

Investigators say they are not aware of any other game rooms in Newton County.

Sheriff Rowles is asking Newton County residents to contact his office if they know of other game rooms.

Jasper attorney Bill Morian is representing Xayaseng and Jenkins.

Morian and several customers told KFDM that there are questions as to the ownership of the game room and whether it is connected to the store.
