Vidor police officer released from hospital after vehicle struck on I-10
UPDATE: A Vidor police officer has been released from a hospital after a driver struck his cruiser while the officer was working with construction crews on I-10 near FM 1132.
The officer called dipatch at about 2:45 a.m. Friday to report he was involved in an accident and needed an ambulance.
Vidor police and first responders went to the scene and say the officer was in the driver's seat of his patrol unit when he was struck by the driver of an SUV. The other driver remained at the scene. Both were taken by EMS to CHRISTUS Hospital St. Elizabeth. The officer was treated and released. We're checking on the other driver.
NEW THIS MORNING: Vidor police officer is in the hospital after an early morning accident on Interstate 10 East in the westbound lanes.
The accident happened near the 1132 exit around 2:30 a.m.
According to officials, the officer was working with construction crews when a white Ford Explorer hit the back of his cruiser.
The officer was transported to the hospital, but his injuries are reportedly non-life threatening at this time.
No word on the other driver.
The accident has been cleared up from the road.
