Vice President Mike Pence offered words of comfort for Las Vegas as he spoke at a unit prayer event at City Hall Saturday afternoon.

"Today we are all Vegas strong," he said during his six-minute speech before several hundred people.

This was a "tragedy of unimaginable proportions," he said of the Sunday shooting that killed 58 people and wounded 489 at a country music concert in front of Mandalay Bay.

Pence had high praise for law enforcement, first responders, and everyday individuals who worked hard to save lives as gunfire reigned down shortly after 10 p.m.

Hundreds of Las Vegans marched from the four corners of the city to join Saturday at noon for a prayer ceremony.

Pence, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, other elected officials, faith leaders and several hundred residents participated in a citywide faith unity walk that began earlier Saturday.

The walk was organized in conjunction with the Mayor's Faith Initiative as a way for the community to heal following the devastating shooting at the Route 91 Harvest concert last weekend.

Following the gathering, a release of doves, one for each of the victims killed on Sunday, took place on the City Hall plaza.
