KFDM Investigates: 72-Hour hold
Out of the 254 counties in Texas, only Jefferson County has what’s called the accusation hold. A person can be arrested, and held for 72 hours, without charges being filed.
The Commission on Jail Standards told me they are unaware of any other county in Texas with this policy.
“Why should a citizen have to be held in jail, without being charged with an offense?" defense attorney David Barlow says.
