SOUTHEAST TEXAS - The average price for one gallon of unleaded gasoline in Beaumont has dropped 6 cents in the past week, according to the weekly AAA Texas gasoline price survey.
The $3.04 average is the second lowest in Texas this week, behind Ft. Worth at $3.03. The average in Dallas is also $3.04 a gallon. Motorists in Amarillo are paying the most on average at $3.14
The state average is $3.09, down five cents. The national average is $3.30, down 8 cents.
(Irving, TX) - Drivers in the Lone Star State are now paying an average of $3.09 for a gallon of regular unleaded, which is five cents less than a week ago, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
Motorists in Amarillo are paying the most on average at $3.14, and drivers in Fort Worth are paying the least at $3.03. The national average has dropped eight cents and now sits at $3.30.
Over the last week, the average pump price in every state has fallen. Pump prices have steadily declined as a result of lower crude oil prices and because U.S. demand for gasoline continues to be low while inventories continue to be high. The exception is on the East Coast, where supplies are increasing but remain somewhat tight following the disruption to distribution after Hurricane Sandy.
While the nationwide demand will likely increase slightly as motorists travel to visit family and friends for the holidays, demand is expected to remain low to begin 2013, which will keep downward pressure on gasoline prices.
"During a time when many people are buying gifts for loved ones, making contributions to charities, and planning holiday meals, these lower gas prices are a welcome sight," said AAA Texas New Mexico Representative Doug Shupe. "We're hopeful the drop in prices will be a relief to the pocketbooks of those who plan to drive this holiday season."
Currently, drivers in Texas are paying about $43 to fill up a typical 14-gallon size fuel tank. Drivers are encouraged to use AAA's Fuel Cost Calculator at http://fuelcostcalculator.aaa.com/ to get an estimate of the fuel cost of their holiday trips based on real time gas prices.
To help consumers identify quality auto repair shops that can assist in the maintenance and repair of their vehicles, AAA offers the Approved Auto Repair program as a free public service. AAA-approved repair facilities meet and maintain high professional standards for training, equipment, cleanliness and customer service. Motorists can look for the Approved Auto Repair sign at local auto repair facilities, or search for a nearby AAA-approved shop online at AAA.com/Repair.
