Orange Police are interviewing the student and a second student who wasn't arrested. Investigators say they're trying to determine if there was or wasn't any potential threat to the school, according to information provided to KFDM News by Combs and the Orange Police Department .
Parents of LC-M students received an automated telephone message Thursday morning telling them a Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School student was apprehended with an "unlawful weapon."
District spokeswoman Sherry Combs told KFDM News the message went to parents and staff members. She said the district is gathering facts to learn more about the investigation. Combs confirms it happened after school hours and away from campus. She says there is no threat to the school Thursday and extra deputies are patrolling the campus to ensure the safety of students and staff.
She told us the case isn't connected to a hoax two weeks ago in which there were online postings indicating gang members would bring guns to the high school and get involved in a shootout.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office arrested a 12-year-old Mauriceville Middle School student Wednesday after they say he wrote a hit list. He said the students on the list had been picking on him. He is accused of making a terroristic threat and was taken to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Justice Center. The district suspended the student.
The Orangefield ISD has suspended a 15-year-old high school student accused of writing a hit list. He said it was a prank. The Sheriff's Office is investigating and charges are pending.
The Sheriff's Office says it's increased patrols at all Orange County schools as a result of the hit lists.
