BEAUMONT - Beaumont optometrist Dr. Peter Cass and his wife, along with staff members they took on the Carnival cruise that turned into a 'cesspool on water' according to some passengers, returned to Southeast Texas early Friday morning and spoke with KFDM News.
KFDM reporter Justin Hinton spoke with Dr. Cass early Friday. Watch for his report tonight on KFDM News.
The ship docked in Mobile, Alabama Thursday night. It left Galveston last week and a fire in the engine room left the ship without power and with little electricity.
Dr. Cass described hearing the emergency alarm and announcement around 5:30 Sunday morning.
In the few days that followed he said, "It was very much like living in a Porta-Potty that had caught on fire."
Despite the horrible living conditions, he said the crew was very responsive and helpful.
"The crew was fantastic. Those poor guys were living in the same conditions we were," Cass said. "Even living in those conditions they were taking care of us."
