Seattle Seahawks Safety Earl Thomas passed out 200 free coats to school children in Orange Saturday.
“It’s going to get cold soon, so it was just a good thing to go to the store and buy as many coats as I can and come back and give to the less fortunate,” he said.
Families waited in a long line outside the Sixth Avenue Community Church for a coat, but the coat giveaway delivered more than that. It fulfilled a promise Thomas made many years ago.
“If I have the opportunity to go to the league or do something positive for the community, then I’ll definitely grab it by the horns and go with it 100 percent.”
Through the Earl Thomas Faith, Family and Friends Foundation, he plans on hosting more events where he can give back to his community.
“That shows that we have someone in our community that cares for our children as they’re coming up, which is awesome,” Renetta Allen-Alphonse said.
She brought her three kids and two of her friend’s kids.
