WASHINGTON (AP) - Military officials say soldiers from East Texas and Florida have been killed in a bombing in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department has identified the victims as 37-year-old 1st Sgt. Russell R. Bell of Tyler, Texas, and 26-year-old Staff Sgt. Matthew S. Sitton, 26, of Largo, Fla.
DOD on Sunday said both men died Thursday in the Kandahar province from wounds suffered when an enemy bomb when off. Further details on their deaths were not immediately released.
Bell and Sitton were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C.
