NEWTON COUNTY - by Steve Stewart/KJAS - Fire destroyed a Newton County man's home, and left him injured on Tuesday afternoon. The blaze occurred at the residence of 89-year-old Bill Aycock, on County Road 4059 in the Trout Creek Community.
According to Aycock's granddaughter, Melissa Osborne, a neighbor pulled Aycock out of the burning house when he went back in and tried to retrieve some of his property from the house that he had lived in for the past 40 years.
The volunteers of the Trout Creek Fire Department responded to the incident, but there was little they could do, as the mobile home burned to the ground.
According to Osborne, her grandfather had to be transported to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation, and second degree burns on his hand and forehead.
There's no word on what may have caused the fire.
