HOUSTON - From KHOU TV and www.khou.com - Officers late Thursday night shot and killed a suspect who allegedly stabbed three people at a family’s wedding gathering, police said.
It all happened around 11:30 p.m. outside a home south of downtown on Nagle Street near Leeland Avenue, according to the Houston Police Department.
HPD spokesman Kese Smith said officers responded to a 911 caller who reported a stabbing.
“Apparently a number of people were in town for a wedding when one of the party members got into an argument with other family members,” said HPD spokesman Kese Smith. “That argument moved out onto the street where the suspect then stabbed three individuals.”
Police said they found the suspect holding a knife outside the home, but he ignored their commands to put down the weapon. An officer opened fire after the suspect moved toward police. The suspect stayed on his feet, and a second officer opened fire when police said he approached them again, knife in hand.
The suspect, who was in his early twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to HPD, one stabbing victim was listed in critical condition. A second victim was in serious condition while a third was in stable condition. All were transported to area hospitals.
An HPD spokesman said the officers involving in the shooting would be identified at a press conference at noon on Friday. Both officers were said to be on the force for more than three years.
