JASPER- by Steve W Stewart
Jasper Police are searching for a suspect, and a stolen car, after a convenience store was robbed early Saturday morning. The crime occurred shortly after 6:00 at the Valero JOC Stop, located at the corner of South Wheeler at Curtis Street.
According to Interim Police Chief Harlan Alexander, a tall white male, in his early to mid 20's with bleach- blond hair, entered the store when the clerk opened the business at 5:30.
Alexander said he stayed and talked to the clerk for about a half-hour, and then handed her a note, indicating that he had a gun and demanding money. Alexander said the clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and then the man took her keys and left in her dark green 2006 Chrysler Sebring, with Texas license plate BT3Y658.
Late Saturday afternoon, investigators said they now know who the person is, but they are not yet releasing his name.
Chief Alexander said the suspect left some important evidence at the store. Meanwhile, the search continues for the man, and the vehicle.
