KOUNTZE - It's a show of faith Kountze High School cheerleaders will repeat Friday night for the first time in a home game since the religious sign controversy began making national headlines.
Kountze cheerleaders are fresh off a partial victory in court. They have at least another two weeks to hold up run-through banners with religious messages at football games. State District Judge Steve Thomas granted a two-week extention Thursday for a temporary restraining order that prohibits the Kountze school district from banning the signs.
The superintendent prohibited the signs after he received a complaint from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
Parents of the cheerleaders are suing the district. The judge has set an October 18 deadline to decide if he'll grant a temporary injunction to the cheerleaders. That would allow the signs until the case goes to trial.
A large crowd is expected at Lions Stadium in Kountze for Friday night's game against Woodville.
The football team will run through the banner just before game time at 7:30.
Texas Governor Rick Perry skyped with the girls Friday afternoon and offered his support.
