BEAUMONT - Statement from BISD
Veteran educator James Broussard has announced his retirement effective Feb. 15. Broussard is principal of Ozen High Magnet School for the Arts. With more than 35 years in education, Broussard’s experience ranges from his first day in 1977 as a teacher and coach at Odom Middle School. Over the years, he advanced to positions ranging from teaching and coaching at Marshall Middle School and West Brook High to management at the transportation department and assistant principal and principal at Martin Elementary School. He was appointed principal at Ozen in 2004.
“Working for BISD has been wonderful,” said Broussard. Ozen is one of the unique schools in the state featuring training in the arts that range from music and drama to the internationally award winning video technology program. Ozen has about 200 employees and 1,150 students. Broussard said he is thankful to parents and the community for all the many years they entrusted their children to his care and tutelage. My greatest pleasures in the nearly four decades of education have been the phenomenal children, my students. “Investing in them continues to be the gift that keeps on giving,” he added.
“With seven grandchildren, my hands will be full during my retirement. Spending more time with family will be the best part. There will be a lot of hunting and fishing, too,” Broussard said. Another special activity planned for his retirement future will be volunteering to help senior citizens in home repairs since Broussard also considers himself a pretty good carpenter.
Dr. Timothy Chargois said he is “Appreciative of the work Broussard has done over the years in education here at BISD. He has impacted the educational growth of tens of thousands of students. For me, that means he has impacted more than a community, as educators are known for doing, he has impacted the world. I wish him well in his retirement.”
