PORT ARTHUR - A dump truck overturned and its load of wood and other materials spilled onto West Port Arthur Road and the railroad tracks near Highway 365 shortly before 9 a.m. Monday.
The driver was hurt and taken by ambulance to a hospital. His injuries aren't life threatening, according to Port Arthur Police.
Police say the road remains open while crews remove the debris.
Police tell KFDM News the driver was traveling north on West Port Arthur Road. He began turning east onto Highway 365 when the load shifted and the truck and cab turned onto its side on railroad tracks.
Firefighters say the truck driver was unconscious when they got to the scene. They used the jaws of life to free the driver. He regained consciousness when they began treating him at the scene.
A woman driving a Chevy Tahoe in the lane next to the truck was able to avoid the vehicle as it began overturning. The falling debris hit the woman's Tahoe and caused some damage. She wasn't hurt.
Crews from the City of Port Arthur used a crane to remove the load from the truck in order to get the vehicle upright and remove it from the railroad tracks.
Police say it could take a couple of hours to clear the debris and inspect the tracks for any damage.
