BEAUMONT - Beaumont police and firefighters have identified the body of a man found in a burning dumpster early Tuesday morning. Investigators say the cause of death is smoke inhalation and the manner of death is accidental.
They're trying to reach relatives of the 58-year-old man before releasing his name.
Capt. Brad Penisson with the Beaumont Fire Department tells KFDM News a neighbor called 911 at about 2:15 a.m. to report a dumpster fire at the Exxon gas station at the corner of Cardinal and Highland Avenue. After firefighters put out the flames they discovered a body inside the dumpster behind the convenience store.
The body was partially burned and there was no identification.
Fire and police investigators were on the scene for nearly 5 hours.
Penisson confirms the body has been taken to the morgue and the dumpster was transported to the crime lab.
