BEAUMONT - A judge sentenced a woman to prison for what prosecutors call a case of road rage that led to a man's death.
Judge John Stevens sentenced Zola Ann Wilson, 46, of Port Arthur, to five years in prison for each of two counts of Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon. She'll serve the terms at the same time.
Under the plea agreement, she faced a possible sentence ranging from probation to up to five years in prison. If convicted of the charges, she could have received up to 20 years in prison on each count of the 2nd Degree Felony.
Wilson pled no contest February 19.
Investigators say Wilson was driving on Highway 69 in Jefferson County during the afternoon of January 27, 2012, when a rock struck her windshield and chipped it. Police say she changed lanes, drove in front of the truck ahead of her, put on her brakes and came to a complete stop. That caused the truck driver to stop to avoid colliding with Wilson's vehicle. The vehicle behind the truck crashed into it, severely injuring the driver, Gary Naquin, 34, of Groves, and also injuring his wife and their two children. Naquin died three days after the crash.
