LU Baseball hosts S.E. Louisiana in SLC series
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University baseball team looks to get back into the hunt for a berth in the Southland Conference Tournament when it hosts Southeastern Louisiana in a three-game series this weekend at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
Game times are set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. The Friday and Saturday games will be aired live on KLVI (AM 560) with a simulcast on LamarCardinals.com. Sunday’s game will be an internet-only broadcast.
Lamar (8-16 overall, 1-8 Southland) enters the weekend three games out of a tournament berth. Lamar looks to snap a four-game skid in Friday’s series opener.
Southeastern Louisiana (19-7, 6-3) is tied with McNeese State for third place, one game behind co-leaders Sam Houston State and Northwestern State.
Seth Dornak leads the Lamar regulars with a .295 batting average. Garrett Autrey leads the Cardinals in home runs (3) and RBIs (13). Right-hander Eric Harrington (0-4, 5.40) will start for Lamar on Friday, while another righty, Carter Hahn (0-1, 6.75) is Sunday’s scheduled starter for Lamar. Coach Jim Gilligan is undecided on Saturday’s starting pitcher.
Southeastern Louisiana is led by infielder Brock Hebert, who brings a .463 batting average into the weekend. The speedy Hebert has a team-best 13 doubles and is 23-for-26 in stolen-base attempts.
The Lions are slated to start right-hander Andro Cutura (1-1, 4.12) on Friday, left-hander Jordan Hymel (4-1, 1.81) on Saturday and righty Josh Janway (2-1, 2.61) on Sunday.
Lamar is hosting a Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run competition for area youths ages 7 to 14 at the conclusion of Sunday’s game. There is no entry fee. Youngsters must provide a birth certificate prior to competing. Youths wearing a baseball jersey to Sunday’s game will be admitted for free.
