NOTES FROM THE OUTDOORS
For long-range rifle shooting, people need to learn how to read “wind mirages.” In the summer, people often see heat waves coming off the ground, especially when driving on a highway. As the wind pushes that mirage made of heat waves, it pushes it down at an angle. By looking at the angle of the mirage, people can determine how the wind is blowing and therefore make aiming corrections to make a better shot.
