Power restored to 17,900 residents and industrial plants

JEFFERSON COUNTY - Power has been restored to nearly 18, 000 residents and industrial plants in south Jefferson County following a short circuit at an Entergy Texas substation.

A spokesperson for Entergy says the transmission outage happened at the Kolbs substation on 39th Street this morning in Port Arthur.

The outage forced the Total and Motiva refinery to burn off excess chemicals to prevent a fire inside the plant.

A spokesperson for both companies said burning the excess chemicals will not affect the air quality in the area.

We have received calls from residents living near the Motiva Refinery complaining about a chemical smell in their home.

A spokeswoman with Motiva refinery told KFDM News if you have any questions about environmental issues call 409-284-8060.
