Woman says man kept her hostage, tortured and burned her

PORT ARTHUR - A Port Arthur man is facing charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Kidnapping after a woman said he held her against her will for more than a month while torturing and burning her.

Jermaine Champs, 36, of Port Arthur, was arrested Monday after a woman walked into the Port Arthur Police Department and claimed she had been a victim of abuse by Champs for five weeks.

Investigators say Champs met the woman five weeks ago. After about a week, the woman said he beat her until she was unconscious, tortured and burned her, and kept her against her will in his home in the 700 block of Nashville.

Police say the abuse went on for four weeks until she escaped Monday and ran to the police headquarters.
