PAISD board reaches voluntary separation agreement with superintendent

PORT ARTHUR - Nearly a year before his contract is up the superintendent of Port Arthur schools is leaving the district.

Dr. Johnny Brown met with the school board in a closed-door special meeting Thursday night to discuss a deal to let Brown out of his contract this summer instead of next year.

An agreement was reached at the meeting. The board and Dr. Brown reached an agreement to release the superintendent from his contract. The agreement calls for the district to pay Dr. Brown about $228,000.

The board members and Brown say the deal is in the best interests of both the school district and the superintendent.

Dr. Browns last day will be June 30.

Trustees say they'll soon begin the search for a new superintendent.
