DA to seek indictment in Higginbotham murder
NEWTON COUNTY - by Steve W Stewart/KJAS and Rayburn Broadcasting Company
Newton County District Attorney Robert Choate has told KJAS News that the evidence in the Tammy Higginbotham murder case will be placed in the hands of the Newton County grand jury next month, and prosecutors will seek an indictment on the suspect, 26-year-old Joshua Latham, of Orange.
Investigators say on February 9th, Higginbotham, 41, traveled to Orange from her home in Vinton, Louisiana to meet Latham about purchasing a cell phone. However, she disappeared and her body was found about a week later in a hunting club off of Highway 62 in southern Newton County.
An autopsy later revealed that Higginbotham was strangled to death.
Investigators from the Orange Police Department began searching for Latham and described him as a person of interest in Higginbotham's disappearance. Latham was arrested a few days later in Tennessee on unrelated charges.
Although he was questioned in connection with Higginbotham's death, he has never been officially charged in the case.
