A better coverage of showers and thunderstorms will begin tomorrow with the best coverage of rain around Thursday and Friday.  Some locally heavy rains will be possible with gusty winds and frequent lightning strikes in the heavier cells.  Withe more clouds, temperatures will be a little cooler for afternoon highs.

Police officers, firefighters and others honored

PORT ARTHUR - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

The Port Arthur Neighborhood Action Council held their annual banquet to honor firefighters, police officers and community members.

Detective Marcelo Molfino with the police department received the Officer of the Year Award from both PANAC and the Port Arthur Police Department.

“Tonight's kind of tough for me ‘cause police work is not an individual sport. It's a team sport, so I'm honored and privileged to receive this honor, but it's not about me. It's about the guys and the women that I work with every day,” Molfino said.

PANAC presented Captain Troy Irvine with the Firefighter of the Year Award.

“I know there's so many other guys that really deserve that award more than me, and it's such a team effort,” Irvine said. “We do everything together and it should really be firefighters of the year, is what it really should be.”

PANAC was formed in 1996 with the purpose of building innovative partnerships throughout the community.
