Two month undercover probe leads to heroin arrest
BEAUMONT-By: Leslie Rangel
It's a drug that's rare in Beaumont. Police have arrested people with it only twice in the past five years.
But investigators say Jefferson County has thousands of people who live here that are potential users and eventually possible sellers.
Beaumont police arrested 57-year-old Michael Dalco of Beaumont.
With a large amount of heroin packaged to sell and worth thousands of dollars on the street.
Lieutenant Ky Brown has been with the Beaumont Police Department nearly 30 years. He's never seen such a large amount of heroin.
Officers followed up on a complaint and a two month undercover investigation led to a raid Wednesday at the Spanish Villa apartments off Louisiana Street.
Narcotics officers say he had 73 capsules filled with heroin all worth three thousand dollars.
Lieutenant Brown says the drug is common in the prison system.
According to Brown, that's where the suspect says he first became addicted to heroin.
Brown says Dalco told investigators he began selling the drug when he got out.
Dalco was arrested because officeres beleived he was headed to Fort Worth to buy more heroin.
He was arrested on a $15,000 bond.
